How to Create a Bokeh Light Effect - Photoshop Tutorial

Bokeh light effects can add a beautiful and dreamy feel to your photographs. Bokeh refers to the soft, out-of-focus lights in a photograph that add depth and interest to an image. Fortunately, creating bokeh light effects in Photoshop is a relatively simple process.

For Lights, Type “Bokeh Lights” Into Google Search.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1. Start by opening your image in Photoshop.

Step 2. Create a new layer by going to Layer > New > Layer or by pressing the “Ctrl + Shift + N” keyboard shortcut.

Step 3. Select the Brush tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Choose a soft round brush and adjust the size to suit your needs.

Step 4. Change the color of the brush to white or any other light color that matches your image.

Step 5. On the new layer, use the brush to paint over the areas where you want the bokeh lights to appear.

Step 6. Next, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. The Gaussian Blur will help to soften and blend the bokeh lights into the image.

Step 7. In the Gaussian Blur dialog box, adjust the radius until you achieve the desired blurriness. A larger radius will result in a softer bokeh, while a smaller radius will create a sharper bokeh.

Step 8. To add some variety to the bokeh lights, you can use a bokeh image from Google. Simply go to Google and search for “bokeh image”. Download the image and open it in Photoshop

Step 9. Once the bokeh image is open in Photoshop, select it and copy it by pressing “Ctrl + C”.

Step 10. Go back to your original image and paste the bokeh image onto a new layer.

Step 11. Place the bokeh image over the areas where you previously painted the bokeh lights.

Step 12. Change the blending mode of the bokeh image layer to “Screen”. This will remove the black background and allow the bokeh lights to show through.

Step 13. Adjust the size and position of the bokeh image until it looks right. You can also adjust the opacity if necessary.

Step 14. Finally, merge all the layers by pressing “Ctrl + Shift + E”.

By following these steps, you should now have a beautiful bokeh light effect in your image. This technique can be used to create a range of bokeh styles, from subtle and soft to more dramatic and eye-catching. Experiment with different brush sizes, bokeh images, and blur settings to find the style that works best for you!
